Website of MENC: The National Association for Music Education

Context

MENC: The National Association for Music Education is the main organization for music educators.  I have been a member of the Collegiate Division of MENC since Fall of 2001.  I have attended three state conferences in Winston Salem.

Impact

This website has so many things that I can use to grow as a teacher.  There is a message board where members can post questions about any facet of teaching music for veteran teachers to answer.  I can also read the current issues of  Teaching Music, Music Educators Journal, General Music Today, Update, and Journal of Music Teacher Education.  There is also a resources page called "Information, Please!" that covers topics of interest to teachers, parents, students, researchers, music industry professionals, and others

Alignment with NETS-T Standards

5A. I am using this technology resource to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.

Alignment with INTASC Principles

Principle 6.  The teacher uses knowledge of effective verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom.

Principle 9.  The teacher is a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (students, parents, and other professionals in the learning community) and who actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally.
