Musical Instrument Research Project

Assignment Sheet

Rubric

Context

This artifact was created in February 2005 as an assignment for my sixth grade general music class.  Each student was assigned an instrument to research on the Internet.  Two webquests were given to get the students started, but they were expected to search the Internet for appropriate research materials.  I monitored the class to keep them on task.  Upon completion of the research, the students made a short oral presentation in front of the class.  The students later had a written test on the spelling of each instrument.

Impact

Before this assignment was created, the teacher would have to present all of the information about the instruments to the class.  By researching the instruments, the students were allowed to explore the instruments for themselves and share their information with their classmates.  They also practiced technology skills learned in other classes, and learned new ways to use search engines, such as Google or Yahoo.
