Artifact #4Suckers High School Band Handbook Context I created this handbook for my Band Techniques and Materials class in the Spring Semester of 2004. Our assignment was to create materials to begin a band program, including a Powerpoint to present to parents of potential members, a handbook to use with students, and concert programs. My partner for this assignment, Kevin Cox, and I created this handbook in Microsoft Word. Impact This is a handbook primarily for parents to read so they know what to expect from their child's experience in band. Using this handbook would provide a set of rules for me to use in my classroom. It will also be a written record of what I expect from my students. Lastly, it will let prospective students (and the community) know what to expect from being in band. Alignment with NETS-T Standards 5D. I created this resource using technology to communicate and collaborate with parents. Alignment with INTASC Principles Principle 6. The teacher uses knowledge of effective verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom. Principle 9. The teacher is a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (students, parents, and other professionals in the learning community) and who actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally.
Principle 10. The teacher fosters
relationships with school colleagues, parents, and agencies in the larger community to support students' learning and well-being.
